Since 1949, Samways and Son has been helping riders across Dorset with trusted bikes, expert repairs, and friendly local service.
Samways and Son began life just around the corner on Crescent Road, founded by Walter Samways. Records show Walter listed as a cycle agent at 8 Crescent Road as early as 1927.
By 1939, Walter’s son Charles had taken over the business, and in 1949 the shop moved to its current home on Leigh Road. Charles expanded into new areas — offering TV rentals, household appliances, paraffin, prams and even mopeds — alongside bikes.
For over 70 years, Samways and Son has been part of the local cycling story. From repairing bikes in the early days to supplying the latest eBikes today, our family-run shop has always been built on trust, expertise, and a passion for helping riders enjoy the journey.
In 1971, following Charles’s stroke, his son Andrew stepped in to continue the family legacy. When Mark left school, he joined Andrew in the shop, learning the trade from the ground up.
When Andrew retired, Mark and his wife Michelle took over the day-to-day running of Samways and Son, supported by a small, dedicated team.
From 8 Crescent Road to 70 Leigh Road, the business has seen enormous changes over the last 70 years. Through industry shifts, the challenges of the internet era, and countless happy moments, one thing has remained the same: the community’s support for their trusted local independent bike shop.
Our Wimborne shop is stocked with a wide range of bikes, eBikes, spares and accessories from trusted brands, supported by a fully equipped workshop offering everything from quick puncture repairs to full strip-down services. Mark Samways is the second generation at the helm of Samways and Son, Wimborne’s trusted local bike shop. Mark combines decades of hands-on workshop experience with friendly, honest advice to help riders get the most from their bikes.
Overseeing daily operations, stock, and customer service, she ensures the shop runs smoothly and every rider gets the support they need. Michelle’s friendly approach and organisational skills make her an essential part of the family-run business.
